Giving Up to Gain
You do need Jesus, we all do. Call me whatever you want but there are only two types of people in the world: those who have Jesus and those who don't. The Bible reads in 2 Peter 3:9, that God is not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance. Repentance means change and the only way we can truly change is to place our life in the hands and care of the One Who created us. Now, obviously, not everyone is going to place their lives and belief in God but you can decide whether or not you want to be one who does. God's Spirit will and does draw us to Him and He places the desire or rather, awakens the desire within us to come to Him. It is up to us to either accept or reject what is at the root of that desire. Jesus.
You have to give up whatever is keeping you from giving your whole self to God. That hindrance may be pride or fear or arrogance or simple ignorance and a misunderstanding of Who God really is or any number of thing. Whatever it is, give it up. Your hindrance may not instantly change but it doesn't have to prevent you from receiving the Hope for lost souls. It will take some time before that or those hindrances are completely insignificant to you but at the very least, be open to giving them up and giving your entire being to Jesus. We learned about the grace of God in previous posts and we know that it is sufficient to cover the worst part of us. And as we allow God's Spirit to fill and posses us, we will get to a place where "the worst part of us" becomes "the worst part of who we were".
If you have decided that you want to surrender to the longing of your spirit, whether you are aware of that longing or not, all that is required is your acceptance and confession that Jesus is Who He said He is; Lord, the I Am, the Only True Living God. Having done that, simply place your belief that the "Easter story" told in many churches on Sunday morning is true; that God (the Father) raised Him from the dead. According to Romans 10:9&10, if you follow these simple steps, you will be saved. That is, your spirit will be taken off of the path to Hell and separation from God and will be reunited to Him.
But wait, there's more!! According to verse eleven, those who place their faith in Jesus shall not be disappointed. They shall not lack spiritually or have their need for Who He is ignored. Jesus is for you and not against you. Before you even know what you need, He has provided the answer. The Answer is Him. Choose to place your faith, your trust in the Christ. Choose to follow Him, become a disciple of His...
Hmm, disciple... Discipleship. That's a post for another day.
