Welcome to April


In three more months...

I will have been in California for an entire year! I can't believe it and it feels like time is going by so quickly. So last month, I started going to a writing and critique group and it was great. I had been wanting to go to a group like that for a while but I didn't want to spend too much money since I'm saving for my own place. Well, the Lord, Who is just constantly watching over me, knew my desire to better my craft. I was at the library last month and saw a flyer for a writer's group in a location not too far from me. And it didn't cost too much... it was free! Obviously, I wasn't going to pass this opportunity up and last Monday was my first time attending. The feedback I got was great and it helped me so much with the writer's block I had been experiencing. I can't wait to go back and watch how my writing matures!

If I can encourage anyone today, go do something new! Maybe it's a self care thing that you've not invested in, or maybe it's some dream or goal you have that you've been scared to chase, or maybe it's kicking a bad and harmful habit to the curb, or maybe it's practicing kindness and the love of God to someone. Whatever it is, go do it! And be encouraged that it doesn't have to be perfect, just make the first steps toward something new and fresh in your life. I'm going to leave you with this simple scripture which I thought is perfect for today and on which I'll be meditating. Today is the beginning of a new month, do something different! Also, yes I did change the old theme of my blog and more changes are to come. Keep an eye out! And look for the new thing God is doing in and for you. Happy April 1st!

"Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19

Odd one out So I have always felt like the girl who didn't belong. In school growing up, at former churches (sad, I know), at work, I just felt like I could not fit in or "join" any group. I was always the odd one. I didn't, however, feel this way with my family; I felt fine around my mom and sister. Never About ... Possibly triggering... It was never about trying to be Barbie's bff or about getting the attraction of Ken. I never wanted to appear like the malnourished looking models that "grace" our magazines or be as thin as the mannequins that modeled their fashion. But I have wanted the infamous thigh gap , just waaaay before those two words were ever used together. Way before it seemed to be a "trend". I never even called it that as I fantasized about having tinier thighs. I just remember looking at myself as a child and hating what I saw. I hated the way my legs touched. I wanted so much for them to be apart, so as to allow a small glimmer of light to shine between them when I stood or sat. I Am Not Put Together, Not Tidy

But Jesus still wants me I have many cracks. I worry about everything. I judge myself and sometimes others. I try to be perfect. I struggle with boundary setting. I have yet to master handling my anger in a Godly way. I'm in an abusive relationship which I'm sorta okay with. I hide insecurities by focusing on others. I hide pain by focusing on others. I doubt my salvation and fear I am just pretending. I doubt how I can still be used by God. I find it hard to forgive. I have endless fear induced obsessions. I don't see my worth and I receive God's love to an extent. Sometimes, I just don't care about doing right. I have a tendency to nurse a grudge like a sick toddler. I think the worst of myself and sometimes I think the worst of others. It's hard for me to commit to living by The Love Chapter (1st Corinthians 13). But Jesus still wants me.
